Uterine Fibroids - Cause, Symptoms, Cure and Prevention

Fibroids - benign tumors: According to statistics, four out of ten women aged 30 to 50 have fibroids (fibroids) of the uterus a single node or cluster of benign tumors of muscle and connective tissue. Some of them are immersed in the uterine wall, while others appear like mushrooms in the uterine cavity. In rare cases they may germinate to the outer surface of the uterus, ranging in size from a few grams to tens of kilograms (record large tumor weighing 67 kg).

Fibroids are benign tumors, they do not increase the risk of developing cancer of the uterus and do not become malignant. However, because of their size and location can mask the growth of malignant tumors and therefore needs a thorough diagnosis.

Causes of Uterine Fibroids

The exact causes are not yet known. However, several studies have shown that elevated levels of estrogen stimulate the growth of these tumors. They tend to decrease and disappear during menopause, and vice versa - estrogen replacement therapy may stimulate their growth.

Symptoms of Uterine Fibroids

Most uterine fibroids are asymptomatic, but larger tumors may condition the following symptoms:
  • prolonged and painful menstrual bleeding;
  • bleeding in the intermenstrual period;
  • the feeling of fullness or heaviness in the abdomen;
  • frequent urination (if deformed uterus presses on the bladder);
  • constipation (if a tumor presses on the intestine);
  • pain in the lower back;
  • pain during intercourse:
  • an increase in the size of the stomach;
  • Miscarriages, infertility.

What can a doctor

To confirm the diagnosis and rule out other changes in the uterus ( pregnancy , ovarian cysts, cancer ) prescribe ultrasound.

If a strong bleeding your doctor may prescribe a biopsy of the endometrium, thereby to eliminate the cancer or to determine the cause of bleeding .
In some cases, doctors use a non-surgical method of treatment fibromiomputem use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone antagonists.

What you can do

Chances are good that you do not know about the presence of it. Most often they are found during a routine pelvic examination or during prenatal examinations. While fibroids do not cause severe pain or a feeling of heaviness in the abdomen, not the cause of infertility,, or no more than 10 centimeters in diameter, it does not require treatment.

Visit your doctor once or twice a year so that he could observe the growth of fibroids. These regular checks (with periodic ultrasound studies) needed to identify complications such as fibroids increase with compression of the ureter.
